Artists Statement

I was born an artist.  I wanted to be a sculptor for as far back as I can remember.  Everyone around me knew it as well.  By the time I was 3 or 4, my style was uniquely my own and recognizable.  I’m self-taught and have had no formal art education. My work is intuitive, raw, and instinctual.  An eclectic background exposed me to lots of interesting people and concepts which surely expanded my imagination.

Women have been a constant theme in my work and the power of women has been a huge influence in my life.  I come from a family of women and we are all deeply connected.  At a vibrant 102 years, my grandmother remains an integral part of the family.  My mother converses with her daily as do I with my mother and my daughter with me.  We are intimately connected and the spirit of this connection comes through in my work.

I have been both designer and fine artist for more than 25 years, most often at the same time.  As a designer, I created whimsical items like place mats, jewelry, jewelry stands, switch plates, mirrors, furniture, tabletops, garden accessories and interior accessories.  All incorporated 2-dimensional art and some, such as my furniture and jewelry stands, were sculptural as well.  Working as a fine artist, elements of design are always incorporated in my drawings, paintings and sculpture.  The ebb and flow of compositional elements are always foremost in my mind.
